Our Iwi or Tribe is Tauranga Moana based with our principal localities including Tauranga, Mt Maunganui, Papamoa, Welcome Bay, Katikati, Bowentown, Rangiwaea, Matakana, Motiti and Tuhua(Mayor) Islands.
We are located in our new purpose-built office complex at Te Awa o Tukorako Place, off Taiaho Place (Whareroa Marae) in Mt Maunganui. Feel free to browse the menu on the left to find out who we are, where we come from, the services we offer and how we can help you! This website also acts as a means of communicating with Ngai Te Rangi descendants and members and letting our whanau, marae and hapu know about things happening at the Runanga and around Tauranga Moana so don't forget to regularly check out Panui pages.
New Structure
Te Runanga O Ngai Te Rangi Iwi Trust
Ngai Te Rangi Iwi has managed its business through Ngaiterangi Iwi Incorporated Society (NIIS) and Te Matauranga Trust (TMT) since 1989.
In August 2007 Te Runanga o Ngai Te Rangi Iwi Trust (TRONIT) was established to replace NIIS as the representative entity for Ngai Te Rangi. This was done to enable Ngai Te Rangi Iwi to receive and manage its commercial fisheries assets. It was also considered to be a better entity for Ngai Te Rangi going forward.
Therefore on 31 March 2009, NIIS ceased to operate and was wound up. Its business and assets were transferred to TRONIT.
