"The history of Ngaiterangi is a colourful one from the time of the landing of the Mataatua waka at Whakatane to the flight of this small band of people to the East Coast and then the trek from there to our final settlement here in Tauranga. In typical Maori narrative it is a story of adventure, of battles won and lost, of alliances, of mutual arrangements and of revenge."
"With the establishment of the Runanga in 1989 we are now in a phase of economic, social and cultural development that should see us move ahead into a future that strengthens those attributes and ensures our presence in the area."
