Resource Management Unit

Tena koutou e te Iwi. We are proud to report the establishment of a Resource Management Unit (RMU) for Ngâi Te Rangi Iwi. The main task of the RMU is to "protect our environment, culture, heritage and values". This is a high priority initiative which has full support and commitment from the Ngâi Te Rangi  Iwi Rűnanga.

Firstly, it is important to outline the principles under which the RMU operates. These are:
  • Tino Rangatiratanga - for Ngâi Te Rangi by Ngâi Te Rangi
  • Mana whenua and Kaitiakitanga remains with the Hapű
  • Te Tiriti o Waitangi underpins the relationship with the Crown
  • Te Kotahitanga - Stronger together than alone
  • Our relationship with the whenua and moana endures forever
There are many benefits for operating such a unit, some examples being:
  • Protection of our environment, culture, heritage and values
  • Mitigation of cultural impacts in the rohe
  • Participation in the RMA process at all levels
  • Preservation of our values in long term district and regional plans
  • Resourcing and development for hapu and whanau
