But lets think about it for a minute, Ao meaning the world inferring that this online television station is for the world. It showcases things we want to say for the world. Ao when spoken has several other inferences, firstly that is could be interpreted as part of the moana vernacular – it Oww Tv Oww. Or a simpler it is OUR Tv. The fact remains, its really all of those.
Ao TV is our television station designed only to promote our views and news. Programming is produced, directed and edited onsite and published online from the Rūnanga offices. Utilising the skills and experiences of young people and where necessary training those young people to produce, direct, film and edit those stories. It has been a steep learning curve, but we should not be stifled by the enormity of the task. Micro broadcasting which is what this is, is on the rise internationally. This is another innovative way to educate, emancipate, inform and inspire our whānau.
