Ngāi Te Rangi Hī Ika Co Ltd (NHICL) was established in October 2009 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Te Rangi Iwi Trust (TRONIT). Its main purpose is to represent the shareholding interest of Ngāi Te Rangi in an Iwi Collective Partnership (ICP) that manages commercial fishing activieties on behalf of 12 Iwi.
Under the Māori Fisheries Act 2004; If Ngāi Te Rangi is to become involved in fishing operations or a joint venture for such activity, then a fishing enterprise must be established that is separate from Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Te Rangi Iwi Trust (TRONIT) and Ngāi Te Rangi Fisheries AHC Ltd (NFAL).
Penetaka Dickson was appointed to be the sole director of the Ngāi Te Rangi Hi Ika Company Ltd.
