Ngāi Te Rangi Iwi Incorporated Society was established in 1991
In 1991, the Ngāi Te Rangi Iwi Incorporated Society (Society) was established to govern the affairs of Ngāi Te Rangi. The society existed for sixteen years, however, due to its growing role and responsibilities the Society was replaced by a new entity in 2007, Te Runanga o Ngāi Te Rangi Iwi Trust (TRONIT).
In order to meet treaty settlement requirements, an additional entity, Ngāi Te Rangi Settlement Trust (NST) was established in July 2013 to receive and manage the assets derived from the Ngai Te Rangi Treaty Settlement.
The Ngai Te Rangi Settlement Trust is currently governed by 11 trustees who were elected by their respective Hapu Communities in December 2014.
Following an iwi wide vote in 2014, it was agreed that the trustees of the Ngāi Te Rangi Settlement Trust (‘NST’) will also be the trustees of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Te Rangi Iwi Trust (‘TRONIT’). The trustees meet once a month to attend to the affairs of both Trusts. A Ngāi Te Rangi Iwi Strategic Plan was endorsed on 14 June 2015. This plan will determine the annual planning and activities for NST and TRONIT going forward.
There are a lot of upcoming opportunities for members to connect, be involved and have a say on the future direction of Ngāi Te Rangi. The first step is to register on the Ngāi Te Rangi Tribal Register. By registering as a member of Ngāi Te Rangi you will be kept informed of what’s happening within the iwi.
